Due: Sunday, November 17th, 11:59pm
Introduction: For Interactivity #5, each of you will be responsible for remixing a classmate’s PLAYground canvas (from IA#4) to include collaboration with your content area. So, the canvas you’re remixing must be from a different content area.
Specifications: Each of you must remix a classmate’s canvas. The original canvas must be from a different content area. Your remixed canvas must contain a unit plan in your content area that complements the unit plan originally on the canvas. This promotes cross-content collaboration. The remixed canvas must contain:
- (a) the majority of the original canvas,
- (b) a text widget of about fifty (50) words summarizing your side of the collaborated unit,
- (c) a text widget containing an essential question that prepares students for your side of the collaborated unit,
- (d) at least one (1) image gallery containing at least three (3) images having to do with the original unit and your content area,
- (e) at least one (1) video having to do with the original unit and your content area,
- (f) a text widget listing at least three (3) core curriculum content standards (found here: http://www.state.nj.us/education/cccs/ (for Mathematics and Language Arts/English, choose the 2010 version)) that will be addressed in your side of the collaborated unit (note that your standards must be for the same grade level, and that is the grade level you will be “teaching” your unit to), and
- (g) at least two (2) additional sources for further reading/research for your students.
Procedure:
Step 1: Go to http://www.play.annenberginnovationlab.org/play2.0/ and login to your free user account.
Step 2: In the search bar in the top menu, type in “CURR316” to see all of your classmates’ canvases.
Step 3: Browse your classmates’ canvases outside of your content area, and choose one to remix.
Step 4: Once you’ve chosen a canvas, open the web page for it. At the top of the screen, you will see the option to remix.
Step 5: Remix the canvas using the specifications listed above. Also, be sure to add your own “What Do You Think?” widget for comments. Everyone must tag their remixed canvas: “CURR316 remix”
Step 6: On your CURR316 blog page, create a new post. This post should be 150-250 words describing your process of remixing the canvas. Explain what you added for your content area unit, and justify what (if anything) you removed from or added to the original content area in order to make the two units collaborate. At the end of your post, paste in the URL for the remixed canvas. (*Note: this does count as your weekly written blogpost.)
Step 7: You must leave at least three (3) comments on your classmates’ remixes:
- You must check your canvas to see if it’s been remixed. If it has, you must comment on at least one (1) of the remixed versions. Discuss what you think of the collaborated unit, and include at least one edit that you would make on your original canvas in order to make it better collaborate with your classmate’s remix.
- Comment on at least one (1) remixed canvas that you were not involved in, and in which both units are outside of your content area; state what you would appreciate as a student, and give a tip of how your classmates could incorporate your content area to perhaps intrigue the students who may prefer your content area over the content being taught.
- Comment on at least one (1) remixed canvas that you were not involved in, but that involves your content area; explain how you think the two content areas handled the collaboration. Were you surprised at the combination? Do you have any tips for how to improve either unit?
- If your canvas was not remixed, the third comment is up to you; you can repeat either of the two directly above.
You can:
- Edit the content that was originally on the canvas. For example:
- In an image gallery from the original canvas, you can add an image that relates to your content area in some way.
- You can add additional sources to the original canvas that tie in your content area in some way.
You may not:
- You may not erase the majority of the original canvas.
- You may not change the original canvas’ summary of the unit for the original content area.
- You may not change the original canvas’ essential question for the original content area.
- You may not choose a canvas that has to do with the unit you already posted in IA#4.
Overall, your PLAYground canvas should include:
- All of your content must align with and support the CCSS you’ve selected.
- Two (2) text widgets (b & c above)
- Image gallery containing at least three images (d above)
- One video (e above)
- Text widget containing at least three CCSS (f above)
- Two sources for further reading (g above)
- One “What Do You Think” widget (h above)
- Blogpost is mostly free of grammatical errors and follows Step 6 above
- Three comments as described in Step 7 above
Grading: Interactivity #5 is worth ten (10) points as follows:
- Content: 2 points
- Technical: 4 points
- Blogpost and comments: 4 points
