FAQs

Here are the most commonly asked questions about the course module, along with some basic answers. If these do not address your specific concern, feel free to contact me or my teaching assistant for clarification.

Q: What is the most frequent mistake made by students enrolled in this course?

A: Not reading assignment instructions closely and literally. In an online course, you are bound by the written instructions (although I will try to assist through video as well). If something is not entirely clear to you, request clarification. Too many students simply assume they understand and are surprised when they receive their score. Read carefully and request clarification early on.

Q: I can't get my group members to respond to a group assignment. What should I do?

A: Don't take it personally. Everyone has a different rhythm when it comes to online learning. Make sure you have the correct email addresses and let your group members know your deadline. Remind them to not wait until the last minute, as you are all in this together. Document the date/time of the work you completed and keep email chains, in case you need to justify your individual work later on.

Q: Do you accept late assignments?

A: No. The assignment deadlines are firm. No exceptions. Good teachers (and students) plan for snafus and potential roadblocks. Plan ahead.

Q: An interactivity calls for a unit plan that I have worked on previously. What if I don't have one?

A. You should have one that you already adapted from your course module on inclusion and English language learners. If you don't want to use those, then select one from the internet, but make sure it is: 1) within your content area; 2) is student-centered; and 3) pedagogically sound. If you are in Fieldwork, you might ask someone at your school site.

Q: What happens if I earn a final course grade that is lower than a B-minus?

A: Sadly, you will have to retake the course and will be blocked from moving forward with your Student Teaching. Rarely do students have enough compelling evidence that warrants a grade change.
