Basic Course Policies

  • To verify and protect your identity, use your CWID when requested. You will be prompted on occasion when submitting information over the web to enter your name along with your CWID. This is essential in order to earn credit for your work.
  • Reliable internet access is required to fully participate in this course. Being “offline” is not a legitimate excuse for missing an assignment deadline or not participating in course activities. As a backup, MSU provides numerous computer labs (both Mac and PC) to accommodate your time and tasks needs. Failure to save data or to backup a file is not a valid excuse for missing an assignment. I will send a notification if the course web site needs to be offline for maintenance.
  • Check your email account frequently and pay attention to course updates. An unread e-mail is not a valid excuse for being uninformed about course changes and/or updates. Checking up on this information (via email and the web) every other day will ensure you do not miss important course-related information.
  • Maintain backup copies of all your work. Always keep an extra date-stamped digital copy for your own records (send an email to yourself) or take a screen-shot before you submit an assignment. If there is a discrepancy at the end of the semester, it may make a difference in your final grade if you are able to resubmit an otherwise lost assignment.
  • Late submissions of assignments will not be accepted. There are no exceptions to this policy. You are 100 percent responsible for ensuring that an assignment is correctly posted/submitted. Note: I do not reply to confirmation requests and I will automatically delete any assignments that are submitted via email. It is your responsibility to retain records of submissions. Familiarize yourself with the “return receipt” function within your email program and/or the “Sent” folder within your email account.
  • I expect you to do your own work for this course, work independently, and give credit for all materials you use. As an MSU student and a future teacher you are responsible for knowing and adhering to the university policies on academic honesty. All students who engage in dishonest acts such as cheating and/or plagiarism will be subject to disciplinary action, which includes failure of the course and possible expulsion from the university.
  • Accommodating students with disabilities. Please note that Montclair State University accommodates students with disabilities. For more information, [click here].
An online course comes with its own challenges as well as opportunities. Anticipate technological snafus (i.e., server updates, network outages, etc.) as well as potential roadblocks in your own personal life. I encourage you to explore your own strengths and weaknesses as a learner and plan your online course experience accordingly, as you are 100 percent responsible for your learning and performance in this course.
